Yoga is a great way to stay in shape, and it doesn’t take up very much space or time. You can do yoga anywhere, even in your studio apartment! There is a yoga routine for every mood you’re in, whether you want a morning workout to energize you throughout your day or a before-bed stretch to help you sleep. Getting into the habit of doing yoga regularly might be challenging at first, but you will soon see the benefits of regularly practicing yoga.

Create a Space for Yoga

Having a dedicated space to practice yoga will make it easier for you to get in the habit of regularly practicing yoga. While it is inviting to have your mat rolled out all the time, you don’t have to have this space dedicated just for yoga; just make it easily convertible into your yoga space. You won’t need a ton of space either. Aim for something a few feet larger than the size of your yoga mat on each side. Making time is also incredibly crucial for sticking to a successful yoga routine. You should give yourself about a half-hour for an average yoga session. Planning this time into your day will make it easier to stick to your schedule.

Get the Right Equipment

While yoga can really be done wherever wearing pretty much anything, you will find it is much more comfortable to have the proper equipment. Don’t go out and spend a ton of your hard-earned money on new yoga pants when all you need are comfortable clothes that allow you to move. Getting a good yoga mat is one thing you should do to make your yoga practice more comfortable. Look for a mat that has a sticky side so you can get a better grip on your poses to really make the most of your workout.

Meditate and Breathe

Yoga should be a time of clarity and relaxation as much as it is a workout. Use this time to focus on your breathing and clear your mind. Soon you will be looking forward to yoga for the mental clarity it brings you, not just the stretching.

Ask for Help

Don’t be afraid to ask for help if you don’t know what you are doing. There is a reason that yoga instructor is a full-time job. Improperly practicing yoga could potentially lead to an injury. You don’t have to turn to a yoga guru for help; ask a friend that has practiced yoga for a while or check out one of the many online yoga routines that feature experienced instructors for a free way to guide your yoga routine.

No Distractions

You have put in the effort to make time to practice yoga, no make sure you get the most out of your yoga session by removing all distractions. Turn off the TV, radio, your phone, and literally everything that could distract you during this time.

Go at Your Pace

One of the best things about practicing yoga at home on your own time is you get to move at your own pace. Does one particular pose work a spot you’ve been needing? Hold it for as long as you want because no instructor keeps pace for a whole class. Do not be discouraged if you feel you are not progressing fast enough. Yoga is not about how good you are at it; it is all about what you get out of it.
